I got one for ya. when i was a kid living in TN we went to the JD distillary and my mom would buy used barrels, all still carrying around 1/2 gallon of oooold whiskey lol, well she cut them 4 pieces, 1/2 down center and 1/2 across center. put plywood backs on them and sold them, Jack Daniels planters, pretty darn slick! cool as heck too.

you mean the ones made from barrels? either way, staples rust out fast they are so tiny, Id use stainless or galvanized screws.

It depends boater. if it's small detailed work, i'd nail. if it's larger dimensional cedar, i'd pre-drill/countersink/screw and caulk. banding is an option, or T$G/dado, dowels, mortise & tenon. cedar and copper are both excellent outdoor materials, and they complement each other when weathering. some combination of that would be my preference.

iron bleeds bad in cedar, so watch those nails. galvy or exterior finishes will last about 3 times as long.

This cedar box was made from the same tree that it now sits on Smile It is both screwed and glued Smile No more "Nails" for me! Mad

I also line all my cedar planter boxes with 90 weight felt paper to help prevent rotting Smile
