ATV snowplow fiasco.. DONE!!!

Post by Elkrun on 2nd November 2009, 12:49 pm

I'll be the first to admit I'm about as incompetent with a wrench as HLA is with a fishing rod Laughing , but I figured I could get my plow all put together and on the machine by myself. After all, I managed to get the winch in and wired correctly! This plow thing is kicking my tail! I've gotten the plow itself put together, but the damn bracket that attaches to the frame is a bugger! And its very heavy too!! Nearly impossible to hold it in place and get the bolts all lined up and started... I'm going to give it one more try then I'll have to put it on the trailer and take it to the dealer and have them finish. That should cost a small fortune!

elk you can use a jack to hold it in place, just gotta fab something so it doesnt just drop... make a cradle out of wood or something, the the jack can hold it in place while you start your bolts...

I thought about using the jack, but it needs to go up and back about 45 degrees. I guess I can wedge something against the jack and see if it works.

Stay tuned this could get messy!

im assuming this is a 4 wheeler, use 2 jacks if you have them, use some 2Xs on the top to make a platform and something to hold it there under neath... more wood and screws obviously, , then use the jacks on both sides, and you should be able to get it to whatever spot you want it...

Why don't you get Grant Goodeve to help you......

....oh that's right, the restraining order and all.....((*&^%$#stalker#$%^&man crush&^%$#)

Get your wife or kids to help, you weaner. And by the way, I handle a wrench, a fishing rod, and your sister with equal proficiency. Well. Wink

The only tool you handle is about 5mm and not in your tool box... its in yer pants there sugar. You've really got to get some help with your grant goodeve fettish its just not natural. AND.. until you post a picture of yourself and a non-photoshopped fish in the same zip code, nobody believes you actually fish!

Now, that said, I may have to get the wife and kids out there to finish the stupid plow..
Cool

As I thought... you are a fish virgin. You would think that someone here would be able to help you with that!

The word you're looking for is "envy". Glad I could help out.

Me envy you....I think not! :61: I'd have the god given common sense to take advantage of your predicament. It's the perfect opportunity to build an older truck nice & stout, and throw a real plow on it. What if you need to haul big logs uphill, or get your neighbors backhoe out of the mud? Of course you'll never do that but the wife doesn't know that. You're a man and that's enough a damn reason for you! Sell it Nancy!!

I'm sure your little Barbie plow will work just fine. But you could have had a Chevy!!

Why in gods name would I want a clunker truck laying around? The beauty of the quad is that it is both a tool and a toy! (you're just a tool!). Five minutes from my house are miles of gated roads that are atv accessible... that beater truck wouldn't get in there. I can and do pull logs uphill, and if my neighbor is dumb enough to get his backhoe stuck in the mud, he deserves the hassle of finding someone else to get it out! No thanks, I hate working on crap as it is... the barbie plow will work just fine. Plus its a whole lot more fun. Smile Next up on the winter to do list... taking the generator in to get it fixed. Just in time too, we have snow in our forcast next week!

glad you got it done elk... a jack is a miracle in some cases.... barbi plow? what ya got, 500, 600, 700? obvously its a 4x4, some of them 4 wheelers run 12 grand...more gas mileage, waaaaaaaaaay more agility, climbing ability, acc, ect...a big old truck is just gonna give you a hassle... the better choice would be like a Rhino or something, you will figure it out this year weather it works or not, and go from there... you ever rode in one of the argomaxx things... the 6 wheelers that float?... they do about 35, and WILL NOT GET STUCK....true 6x6, crazy things...you could always put screws in the knobs of the tire and seal them up.... that can work great...
