Serious Wind!
It is howling out there tonight. I have seen some strong gusts of wind between living in Riverside, CA and the Tri-Cities. The gusts that are hitting us tonight are the worst I've ever seen. This storm is one BAD MOTHER! I watched my 10 x 12 shed lift 30 feet off the ground and blow over the tops of the trees. It disappeared in about 3 seconds flat. Funny thing was it stayed in one piece! The gust that took the shed, went from dead calm, not even a breeze, to at least 75 mph in about 5 seconds flat. There was a loud boom, then POW... the wind hit me square in the chest. Right after the boom, the trees snapping sounded like gun fire. My poor goats just stood there and watched their shed blow away. They were dumbfounded... then they started to scream! I'll have plenty of damage in the morning to clean up, plus, I guess I better go look for my shed.
Good luck out there tonight... stay safe.

So far we haven't loss any trees yet! But the ground is getting pretty soggy and it won't take much more before shit happens! I never seen so much win as I've seen here this year.

Re: Serious Wind!
That was the worst wind storm I've ever seen. Last night my son and I ran out to see if the chicken coop was still there and a gust of wind hit us. It almost drove us off our feet. We both instinctively crouched down and eventually the wind drove us flat out on the ground. Branches were snapping off the trees and pelting us while we lay there on the front lawn. I covered my son up and took a few more branches in the back. When the gust let up, we ran for the car. We were both scared shitless. The news said gusts up to 55mph, but I'm calling horseshit on that. I've been in sustained 50 mph winds lots of times... this was easily twice that! At one point a big gust (50+) was blowing from the east in the backyard and flipped my kid's trampoline, standing 100 feet away in the front yard watching, it was blowing about 25 from the west.? It would switch direction 180 degrees instantly. I have a lot of trees down to deal with, it looks like a bomb went off. Nothing hit the house, boats, or vehicles.
I did find the goat shed, its down the hill in the woods about 100 yards from where it was originally. Of course its totally destroyed, but now I have to figure how to get the wreckage out of the woods.. My camper had a some damage, a wood pile was knocked flat, my 10 x 14 dog kennel was flipped over (dog was in the house). All the new trees I've planted (about 18) were up rooted. A friends motor home was over turned. It was serious wind. I spent the day cleaning up messes, staking the trees, and preparing for the next wave thats supposed to hit tonight. I did sneak out and kill a half dozen ducks on the pond though. They were bombing in all day! A guy needs a break from all the serious stuff doesn't he? Besides... duck for dinner tonight is a good thing!

Re: Serious Wind!
We lost one tree on our property line at 1:30 PM here today. It was about 120 feet tall and was dieing for the past year or two. It took out a section of our new wire fence that we put up about two months ago. We are lucky because it could of hit the house if it went the other way! It really sucks!!!

Re: Serious Wind!
CFM Sorry about the fence, but like you said, it wasn't the house!! Now you get to cut, split, and stack firewood!!
Sounds like Chuck gets to do some building too...
