anyone know about Humminbirds?

Post by Steelyden on 21st July 2009, 5:47 pm

I got a 727c humminbird that has a mind of it's own lately. (only 2 years old!) Last March, I went out to Hood Canal, and it started screwing up...like working correctly, then suddenly it shows 1.7 feet deep and a blackout screen, then it'll start working again sometime later. A pain if you're trolling in unfamiliar areas. It works for the most part on Tapps, but not 100%.... but when I'm in the salt, it doesn't work very well at all. Is it the transducer? or in the unit itself? I'm fed up with it and about to pitch it in the water. Any ideas...please??

only 2 years old? It may still be under warranty and I'd find the humminbird website and call customer support.

Den, my humminbird is only 6 months old and has done that, my problem was that the transducer wasn't under the water enough(still about 6" under though) when the boat rocked to one side, then I would go to the other side and it would get deeper and work fine....for some reason those transducers seem to need to be atleast 1.5' under the water to work correctly scratch

That's a great tip Guru, mine was doing the same thing last time on the salt(first time out with HB), inconsistant. It makes sense, when I'd speed up enough to get the bow up, the damn thing worked. My Klammath only draws 6", I may have to go to a retractable mount, cause I just moved a bunch of weight forward and flotation to the rear. I know it will make things worse if that's the problem. Boat's almost done, soon as it is I'll try this out and post back.

I never thought of a retractable mount :140: that's a good idea itself, I definitely would like to know if that works Cool
